Book Review: She Sees Ghosts by David Fitz-Gerald #HistoricalFiction #Supernatural #SheSeesGhosts #CoffeePotBookClub @AuthorDAVIDFG @maryanneyarde

I am one again taking part in a virtual blog tour with The Coffee Pot Book Club. Today, I am welcoming David Fitz-Gerald and his fabulous book, She Sees Ghosts, onto my blog.

She Sees Ghosts―The Story of a Woman Who Rescues Lost Souls

(Part of the Adirondack Spirit Series)

By David Fitz-Gerald

A blazing fire killed her family and devoured her home. A vengeful demon haunted her. Ghosts of the Revolutionary War needed help that only she could provide. A young woman languished, desperate to survive, and teetered on the edge of sanity.

Mehitable grew up in a freshly tamed town, carved from the primeval forest. Family, friends, and working at the mercantile filled her days and warmed her heart. For Mehitable, life was simple and safe, until tragedy struck. When her family perished in their burning home, she retreated into a world of her own making.

As a young girl, she had seen glimmers, glimpses, and flickers of the spirit world. She closed her eyes. She turned her back. She ignored the apparitions that she never spoke of, desperately hoping they would leave her in peace. She was mistaken.

Grief-stricken, Mehitable withdrew from the human world. Ghosts were everywhere. They became bolder. She could no longer turn her back on the spirit world. Her friends feared for her survival. Nobody understood her. She would have to find her own way.

Fans of TV’s Ghost Whisperer and Long Island Medium will especially love She Sees Ghosts. This historical novel features memorable characters and delivers bone-tingling, spine chilling goosebumps. It stands on its own and it is the next installment in the Adirondack Spirit Series by the award-winning author of Wanders Far―An Unlikely Hero’s Journey. David Fitz-Gerald delivers a historical novel with a bittersweet ending that you won’t see coming.

Would she save the spirits’ souls, or would they save her? Only time would tell.

Before I start, I would like to say that one of the main reasons I wanted to read this book was because of the wonderful book trailer that I was sent. It was simply amazing and I knew, after watching it three or four times, that I had to read the book!

(watch the trailer before you carry on reading the review and you will see what I mean - YouTube)!

I have read the occasional book in the supernatural genre, but this one does not blend in with the others in my mind. Mehitable seemed like a very strong woman to be able to face the ghosts that she sees as bravely as she does. There was one ghost in particular that I liked, who just stood and rambled about his life as Mehitable smiled along with the story. It reminded me very much of a child talking about nonsense and then asking their mother if she agrees, while the mother just smiles along, not really understanding anything her child is saying! (And before you ask, yes, I know that feeling very well)!!

There is one thing in particular that I think everyone should learn from this book; if you ask a girl out and she says no, don’t get drunk, sit on her doorstep, and light a match next to a bottle of whiskey. You will fall asleep, due to the drunkenness, spill the whiskey and drop the match, which will lead to a fire (gasp, who knew!) If a girl says no, she probably doesn’t like you and getting drunk does not make you more attractive, despite what your brain may be telling you at the time. You do not suddenly get biceps when you are drunk, the girl will not like you any better.

The animals in this book greatly amused me, especially the names. I would love to get a rooster and call him Dinner, but unfortunately I like sleep and, if I can help it, I don’t like getting up earlier than I have to (although my offspring seems to love getting up much too early for my liking!)

Even if you don’t usually read supernatural books in a historical setting, or any variation of those two genres, don’t overlook this book. I greatly enjoyed reading it and Mehitable was a very interesting character to follow.

I received my copy from The Coffee Pot Book Club but you can grab yours from Amazon (Universal Link).

David Fitz-Gerald writes fiction that is grounded in history and soars with the spirits. Dave enjoys getting lost in the settings he imagines and spending time with the characters he creates. Writing historical fiction is like making paintings of the past. He loves to weave fact and fiction together, stirring in action, adventure, romance, and a heavy dose of the supernatural with the hope of transporting the reader to another time and place. He is an Adirondack 46-er, which means that he has hiked all of the highest peaks in New York State, so it should not be surprising when Dave attempts to glorify hikers as swashbuckling superheroes in his writing. She Sees Ghosts―A Story of a Woman Who Rescues Lost Souls is the next installment in the Adirondack Spirit Series.

    2. I am so glad... and I'm glad you liked the trailer too. My nephew wrote the words and music for the song. I like to listen to that song on repeat!
